Yorkshire League North: Jonny Tattersall hits ground running for Harrogate

The 21-year-old topscored with a run-a-ball 92 as Harrogate racked up 323/9 before the York hosts came up 98 runs short in their reply.

After rain washed out their opening weekend, Harrogate captain George Ross opted to set a target from the toss and his batsman delivered.

Overseas powerhouse Dion Sanson found the boundary with regularity in a 38-ball innings of 48 and Ross added another quickfire total of the same score at number four.

Tattersall watched the flurries of runs as the anchor of the innings and he was the last man out eight short of his century.

Harrogate were without the services of Yorkshire paceman Ben Coad with the ball, under instruction from his White Rose coaches.

Despite restricting Acomb’s run flow, they came two wickets short of wrapping up maximum points.

“With not having Ben available, we were just a seamer short,” said Ross.

“He had bowled 29 overs for the Yorkshire second team in the week and they were worried about that workload. There’s nothing we can do about that.

“We knew it would happen at some point, we just didn’t think it would happen so soon.

“We needed somebody of Coady’s ability to rip through the lower order but I was still really impressed and happy with how we played.”

Harrogate made it a winning double over the weekend thanks to a Sunday rescue mission from Andy Hawskwell and No 11 Harry Stow.

‘Gate were reduced to 155/9 against Wakefield Thornes in the National Knockout opening round but Hawkswell (73) and Stow (38no) shared a 90-run partnership to set up victory. Stow added three wickets to his man-of-the-match display as the Wakefield side were bowled out for 175 in their reply.

Despite hitting form early for his new club, Stow and new-ball partner Tom Geeson-Brown are missing for ‘Gate this Saturday’s home encounter with old foes Scarborough.

Ash Griffin and Cameron O’Donnell will replace them.
