Sir Bradley Wiggins set to ride the Tour de Yorkshire

SIR BRADLEY Wiggins will ride in the second Tour de Yorkshire, which begins in two weeks' time.

The 2012 Tour de France winner and multi-Olympic champion heads an impressive provisional start list for the three-stage race.

Thirty eight of the riders set to feature have competed in the Tour de France and 25 are veterans of all three Grand Tours, which also include the Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a Espana.

Sir Brad will represent his own Team Wiggins and current British road champion Pete Kennaugh will ride for Team Sky, alongside defending champion Lars Petter Nordhaug.

Also set to start in Beverley on Friday, April 29 are BMC’s former hour record holder and Tour de France yellow jersey wearer Rohan Dennis, fans’ favourite Thomas Voeckler and Briton Steve Cummings, who was a Tour de France stage winner last year.

The men’s race includes 10 Yorkshire riders. Racing for the Great Britain team will be Frazer Clacherty, Gabriel Cullaigh and Oliver Wood; JLT Condor will bring Russ Downing, Graham Briggs and Tom Moses; Tom Stewart will ride for Madison Genesis; Liam Holohan will be on duty for Team Wiggins; Josh Edmondson represents NFTO and Pete Williams is riding for One-Pro.

The Asda Women’s Tour de Yorkshire field is headed by world champion Lizzie Armitstead, from Otley.

Others in the women’s race - over the same course as the men from Otley to Doncaster on April 30 - include British Olympian Danielle King, defending champion Louise Mahe and Dame Sarah Storey OBE.

The third stage is on Sunday, May 1, from Middlesbrough to Scarborough.
