Knaresborough scraped past Stanley Rodillians 20-19 to take four valuable points at Hay-A-Park in Yorkshire Five.

Knaresborough made two changes to the backline that lost at Wensleydale last week, with Matthew Shields and Stephen Morris both starting on the wing.

Knaresborough were on the back foot early on as Rodillians scored a converted try. But ‘Boro settled and won a penalty within range that new set-piece taker Sean Whitelow slotted over.

Both sides’ penalty count rose and Knaresborough were losing territory by simple mistakes. But they gathered momentum and George Poole danced through to score, Whitelow converting.

Stanley hit back and ran in a converted try in the corner to lead by four at half-time.

After the restart, Tim Evans’ breakaway retook the lead for ‘Boro, Whitelow adding the two before tagging a penalty.

In typical fashion the end of the game saw Stanley camped on Knaresborough’s try-line. And their pressure told with a final minute try in the corner.

The visitors were left with the hardest kick of the game to steal the win.

But the ball whistled through the air and to the wrong side of the post as Knaresborough crept home.

‘Boro travel to Hallamshire on Saturday.

In Yorkshire Three, Harrogate Pythons lost 22-15 at Castleford.
