HARROGATE failed in their quest to notch an Otley double on Saturday, losing the derby 25-11 at Cross Green in National Two North.

Otley secured a bonus point after Oli Richards clinched a fourth try in the final minute, thus ensuring Harrogate were deprived Harrogate of a losing bonus point.

Harrogate took the lead with a Toby Quarendon penalty in the first minute, but Otley pushed their way back with a Christian Georgiou penalty of their own.

Playing against the wind, Otley then upped the pressure to lead 18-6 at the break thanks to tries by James Twomey, James Woods and Toby Williams, Quarendon adding another penalty for Harrogate.

The second half was more lacklustre, with defences dominating until Harrogate scored after a catch and drive from a lineout allowed Ryan Peacey to barge over and put the visitors within a score.

With the match still in the balance at 18-11, and with the last play of the game, the Harrogate backs spilled a pass which Oli Richards picked up to outpace the defence from 60 yards out to go in under the posts with a flourish, Christian Georgiou converting.
