Racing Tips: Can A.P McCoy clinch one last glory?

It is the end of an era on Saturday when 20 times champion jockey A.P. McCoy retires from the saddle.

He has been a great ambassador for racing and has dominated his sport like no other man has ever done in any sport.

He will be hoping to go out on a high by winning the last big race of the season the Bet365 Gold Cup.

McCoy could possibly ride the 2013 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Bobs Worth, and whilst he looks attractively handicapped my preference is for The Package.

He is a 12 year-old but is surprisingly lightly raced and won well at this year’s Festival.

The Irish trained Grand Jesture looks to be his biggest danger.

The Celebration Chase on the same card has been re-named to mark McCoy‘s retirement and it would be poignant if the champ was to win it on Mr Mole.

It was after this horse’s success in February that McCoy made public his retirement so it would be fitting if he was also his last winner.

There is some good local racing coming up with Beverley staging a great meeting on Thursday.

More than £650,000 has been spent on improvements at Beverley and I can well recommend a visit.

On the racing side Mark Johnston’s Enlace looks the one to be on in their feature race.

Ripon race on Saturday where the opening event is covered by the Channel 4 cameras.

Alan Swinbank has his horses in fine form and Lady Kashaan could be worth a bet in this two-mile handicap.

Pipers Note surprised Scarcroft trainer Richard Whittaker when winning on his seasonal debut at Beverley, as he was considered only 80 per cent fit.

He has already won three times at Ripon and must run well again when going back to his favourite track on Saturday.
