IT may have been a couple of years since he last raced there but Harrogate’s Adam Parsley was crowned Senior Max W Plate champion at the South Yorkshire Kart Club at the weekend.
The 17-year-old former Rossett School pupil has been more often found working on karts rather than racing them since enrolling on the motorsports course at Myerscough College near Preston in September.
But the Bilton teenager swapped spanners for a steering wheel at Wombwell for one weekend only - and dominated at the circuit where he last raced in 2009, chalking up two wins and a second place in the qualifying heats and a comfortable lights-to-flag victory from pole position in the grand final.
“It was a perfect day for me,” said Adam. “I’ve spent some of my weekends working for Sheffield’s S8 Racing, helping younger drivers coming into the sport but, when the chance came to race, I had to take it.
“The team did a brilliant job and the kart felt fantastic all day. Just racing again was so much fun but winning was the icing on the cake. I can’t thank everyone enough.”
