Dan Marston’s men made the most of fellow high-flyers Darley and Birstwith’s inactivity to leapfrog their rivals in the table following what was their third success in as many completed fixtures this term.

Jake Fletcher (66 not out) struck an unbeaten half-century to lead the hosts to 178/6 in their 41 overs, Robert Barker taking three of the wickets to fall.

Gavin Mills managed 56 in reply for Deighton, however a trio of scalps apiece for Joe Corner, Simon Taylor and Marston ensured that their reply didn’t progress any further than 120 all out.

Elsewhere in week five of the campaign, West Tanfield finally got up and running with a 62-run triumph on the road at Ouseburn.

Adam Hodgkinson (35) and Will Shaw (32) top-scored in the away side’s total of 157 all out from 39.4 overs, Ben Mackrill snapping up 4-37.

Ouseburn’s response got off to a dreadful start and they were 18/5 before Pete Carr (34) offered a bit of resistance, though things didn’t get much better and the hosts were eventually sent packing with only 95 to their name.

Jonny Luty was in sensational form for Tanfield, grabbing 5-29 alongside Joshua Gericke, who finished the afternoon with 4-42.

Masham were another side to register a maiden success of 2021.

They beat Harrogate 3rd XI by 35 runs having put 230 all out on the board batting first.

Darley versus Blubberhouses, Goldsborough versus Birstwith and Pateley Bridge versus Burton Leonard all fell foul of the wet weather.
