Bash Khan’s men remain rooted to the foot of the table, but now find themselves within touching distance of safety after a shock triumph over title-chasing Birstwith.

Lee Platts (58 not out) and Barrie Fewster (31) top-scored as the basement boys were all out for 207 in 44.4 overs, Jon Millward taking three of the wickets to fall.

A rain delay meant that Birstwith's reply had to be reduced to 37 overs and their victory target was subsequently adjusted to 172.

But although Tom Croston (53) and skipper George Hirst (34) made runs at the top of the order, the hosts collapsed to 132 all out as Sajid Khan (5-36) and Platts (3-30) worked their magic with the ball.

Second-from-bottom Goldsborough also boosted their survival hopes courtesy of a much-needed success in another rain-affected game at Pateley Bridge.

Mason Scopelliti (60) and Gary Muff (36) led the way for the Badgers in their first-innings total of 190/9.

Cameron Kwok bowled superbly to return figures of 5-17, then impressed with the bat as well when Goldsborough responded.

He struck 43 alongside Robert Davies (40) as the visitors eased to their revised target of 122 with three wickets and more than five overs to spare.

That result means that Helperby now find themselves just three points above the drop zone following their third consecutive loss.

Chasing Arthington's 269/9, Dan Marston's men were dismissed for 185 after a number of their batsmen made starts, but failed to go on and convert them into big scores.

Naveed Piran was the pick of the away attack, claiming 3-36 having already struck a half-century earlier in the match.

His knock of 54 was only bettered by Arthington opener Sajid Hussain (55) as the visitors cantered to maximum points.

At the other end of the table, Killinghall continue to set the pace having seen off Darley.

Luke Haidar was in near-unplayable form for the league leaders, helping himself to 6-21 to get rid of the defending champions for just 93.

The wet weather meant that Killinghall were set a revised target of 55 in 20 overs and Stephen Lennox's quickfire 35 paved the way for them to reach 59/3.

Second-placed West Tanfield recorded a seventh win in eight attempts, narrowing the gap between the top-two.

Jonny Luty took three scalps to help get rid of visiting Masham for 157, Dan Woolston contributing 35.

Sam Abel (67 not out) and Harry Lamb (51) then batted nicely to steer Tanfield to 162/3 and a seven-wicket success.

Rob Stanworth scored a ton to pave the way for Harrogate 3rds' 56-run triumph over Kirk Deighton.

His knock of 103 came from 123 deliveries and included 18 fours, Matt Ingham (87) providing excellent support alongside Ted Morley (36 not out) in a total of 266/4.

Deighton captain Louis Toseland performed even better with the willow in hand, finishing unbeaten on 115, though the only meaningful assistance he received came from Richard Ward (46).

And in the end the visiting skipper ran out of partners as the away side were all out on 210.

Archie Holtham (4-42) and Dominic Bradburne (4-59) both shone for the Roosters, who climb above Saturday's opponents and into seventh position.
