Ripon RUFC thrash Huddersfield Laund Hill RUFC to chalk up sixth straight victory

Ripon RUFC chalked up a sixth consecutive victory when they thrashed Huddersfield Laund Hill in Yorkshire Two.

The Blues were in charge of Saturday’s game by half-time, but went on to run riot in the second half, scoring 40 unanswered points to seal a 56-0 success at Mallorie Park.

Buoyed by a lively home crowd, the hosts continued their recent good form courtesy of a disciplined, high-intensity display based on set-piece accuracy, breakdown efficiency and sustained territorial pressure.

Ripon established control through Morgan Clark’s game-management in the fly-half position, with his kicking of three penalties handing them a 9-0 advantage.

The game’s first try followed a sharp counter-attack down the touchline that was finished by player-coach Alex Riley, who supported well before chipping ahead to score under the posts.

Clark’s conversion made the scoreline 16-0 at the interval.

Despite conceding 14 penalties during that opening half, Ripon’s defensive organisation prevented Huddersfield from creating any clear scoring opportunities, and they went on to up the ante after the break.

Six more tries followed, with the scoring sequence beginning soon after play resumed when lock Iain Barker forced his way over from a series of forward drives.

Centre Tom Graham then struck for the first of his two tries on the day, before joint man of the match Allan Hudson crossed following a strong phase of play from a scrum.

The Blues’ forward pressure told again when prop Adam Newcombe finishing from a driving maul at a line-out.

Replacement front-row forward Jack Stiddard then added a well-taken try, running the ball in from around 30 metres out as the hosts maintained their intensity into the final quarter.

Graham completed the scoring late on with his second touchdown of the afternoon, bringing the scoreline to 56 points without reply, including six conversions from the boot of Clark.

Ripon’s number 10 was influential throughout, contributing 21 points in total and maintaining a high success rate from the tee to take his season total to an impressive 214 points.

Meanwhile, Graham’s double also returned him to the top of Ripon’s 2025/26 try-scoring chart.

Next up for the Blues is a trip to the seaside to tackle second-placed Bridlington. This Saturday’s encounter is set to get underway at 3pm.
