Harrogate CC 1st XI beaten again as Knaresborough CC make it three wins on the spin

Having made such a promising start to their 2026 Yorkshire Premier League North campaign, Harrogate CC’s 1st XI suffered a third consecutive defeat when they were turned over by struggling Hull Zingari.

The Roosters won each of their first three completed Premier Division fixtures before coming up just short against defending champions and current leaders Castleford in an extremely close game that could have gone either way.

But, after they were undone by local rivals Knaresborough last time out, David Stiff and his men suffered more disappointment on Saturday afternoon against opponents who currently find themselves bottom of the pile.

In a match reduced to 32 overs per side because of rain, Zingari closed on 203/4 at St George’s Road.

And although opener Arjun Ramkumar (64) hit a half-century when ‘Gate responded, they finished up 19 runs short on 184/9.

That result leaves them fourth in the table, where they sit two places and two points better off than Knaresborough, who recorded a third consecutive league success when they crushed Woodhouse Grange.

Overseas ace Pathum Pawaluge (91) weighed in with another big score, while Will Wade (46) also contributed as the visitors posted 254/7 in 48 overs.

James Wade (4-22), Ashley Watson (3-18) and Jordan Tear (3-48) then caused the Grange batsmen all sorts of problems, sending them packing with only 114 to their name.

In Premier Division Two, Harrogate 2nds also managed to find a way to lose to the team that is currently rooted to the foot of the table.

Eighth-placed ‘Gate came up well short as they attempted to chase down a first-innings total of 263/9 in 44 overs.

Andy Holtham took four of the wickets to fall before Olly Lamb struck 60 with the bat, however the away side were unable to progress any further than 205 all out.

Sessay remain on course to secure an immediate return to the top flight after recording their fifth win of the campaign, on the road at Welton.

The Thirsk outfit consolidated second place by dismissing their hosts for 202/9 having put 217/9 on the board in 50 overs.

Ben Kettlewell was the pick of the Sessay attack, finishing up with figures of 4-41 after Henry Stevens had earlier compiled a fine knock of 84.

Beckwithshaw’s seventh triumph in eight matches since leaving the Airedale & Wharfedale League to join the YPLN saw them reclaim top spot in Championship West.

The Stags racked up a hefty 296/7 in 44 overs at home to Sessay 2nds, Ben Holderness (65), Oliver Hebblethwaite (55) and Sam Moore (46) all batting well.

Allround ace Hebblethwaite (4-12), Lewis Hughes (3-36) and Henry Wenham (3-37) then combined effectively to bowl Sessay out on 170.

Studley Royal remain hot on Shaw’s heels in third place following Saturday’s four-wicket success away at Knaresborough 2nds.

Luke Reilly (53) and Toby Giddings (40) helped the home team to 147 all out as Dan Craven claimed 4-31.

Leo Wilson then hit a rapid 75 not out from just 42 deliveries to steer Studley to 151/6 inside 22 overs.

Tom Baines did his best to slow Royal’s progress, ending the match with a return of 3-25.

Fourth-placed Arthington suffered a six-wicket reverse at the hands of Colton Institute having made 184/7 in 28 overs.

Umar Farooq (32 not out) and Satyawan Himanshu (30) chipped in with useful knocks, though their efforts proved to be in vain.

In-form Bilton In Ainsty recorded a fourth successive win courtesy of their 18-run victory at home to Oulton.

Dom Exton (66) and Mohammad Hassan Khan (61) led the way as the mid-table Frogs reached 213/9 in 46 overs.

Muhammad Khalil Ullah then took 3-33 as Oulton were dismissed on 195.
