However, the ninth-placed side still went down 32-17 to leaders Old Grovians.

‘Gate had Grovs pinned in their own half early on but a mix-up on six minutes from a clearance kick handed Grovss a penalty which their fly-half dispatched.

Further damage followed when, from a 5m scrum, the ball was swiftly moved wide for Grov’s winger to perform a neat step and cross over out wide.

Pythons were then awarded a penalty of their own on 21 miutes and Ross Fallenstein slotted over the three points.

The away side missed a penalty before they quickly regained the initiative and from an attacking scrum they scored another try out wide.

In the second-half, Dan Harland was held up over the line and Tom Booth was called back for a foot in touch, as all ‘Gate’s pressure was repelled.

However ‘Gate finally got their reward when Jake Harland beat his man and scored a converted try in the corner.

But Grov’s showed why they are top of the league and responded straight away with good hands through the backs allowing their centre to cross.

He appeared to lose the ball forward but was pulled back by a ‘Gate player and. ‘Grov’s were awarded a penalty try.

Next Grov’s pacey winger made a break on the outside and great hands again led to another try for Grov’s winger.

‘Gate never gave up and they had the final word when quick ball found Young Tom Everingham in space and he crashed over by the posts, converted by Fallenstein.
