Harrogate Ladies celebrate after finding the net during their derby victory over Ben Rhydding

The success ensures that they finish fifth in North Division One, two places better off than last season.

“It was great to finish with a win playing some of our best hockey of the season,” captain Lucy Wood said.

“The team are looking forward to going one better next year and fighting for promotion in to the North Premier Division.

“I’d like to say a special thank you to all our supporters who have cheered us on from the sidelines all year.”

Wood’s side took the lead against Ben Rhydding when Tilly Hall struck following a fantastic cross from youngster Ash Farrar.

The hosts struck back almost immediately with two goals in quick succession, but this didn’t faze Harrogate and following a pass into the ‘D’ from player of the match Wood, Nikki Gill deflected the ball past the keeper for 2-2.

Megan Clark then moved the visitors ahead just before half-time with an impressive first-time strike off the back foot from a short corner.

Harrogate enjoyed plenty of the ball in the second period and after creating a number of chances, they eventually sealed victory when Clark notched her second goal of the day.
