Harrogate Hockey Club Ladies 1s bounced back from last weekend’s defeat to Newcastle University when they cruised past North Division One’s bottom side, Didsbury Greys.

Their loss last time out was their first in seven matches, but Rachel Till’s team wasted no time in getting back on track on Saturday, producing a dominant performance from start to finish.

Harrogate’s short, fast passing game saw them take control of proceedings and Lucy Wood opened the scoring, netting a rebound off the home keeper.

Megan Clark added her side’s second after a skilful run, firing a powerful strike from the top of the D into the bottom left corner of the goal for a 2-0 half-time lead.

In the second half, Didsbury kept most of their players behind the ball, but their defensive tactics were not enough to prevent ‘Gate adding to their tally.

The visitors’ third goal came from a short corner which was slipped back to Till, who deflected the ball in to the bottom corner.

Evelyn Wright then notched Harrogate’s fourth to put a seal on a fine display.

Twenty-four hours later, the 1s returned to action, and played out a 2-2 draw at home to Morpeth.

The away team took the lead, only for Lucy Wood to restore parity from the top of the D having been teed up by Sarah Gibbins.

‘Gate enjoyed plenty of possesion during the opening half and this was to be the case again in the second period, however they failed to take their chances in front of goal.

Wood did eventually bury a strike from a short-corner to move the hosts into a 2-1 lead, but with just five minutes remaining Morpeth snatched a late equaliser.

Sophie Ashbaugh was named as Harrogate’s player of the match.

‘Gate 2s travelled to struggling Airedale 1s and returned to Ainsty Road with a 2-0 victory under their belts.

The visitors dominated the first period, but the sides went into half-time with the match still goalless.

They did however break the deadlock early in the second half, Fi Normand dribbling and finishing well following Hannah Nash’s pass.

Captain Jenny Allen doubled the advantage with a straight strike from a penalty-corner.

Harrogate 3s eased to a 4-0 home success over Wakefield Wanderers 1s.

Em Adshead netted twice for the hosts in a match that they were always in charge of.

The Ladies 4s won 4-1 at Bradford 1s, while the 5th XI also impressed on their way to a 4-0 victory against Tadcaster Magnets 2s.
