‘Gate fell to a 6-4 defeat at Granby last weekend and travel to in-form City of York on Saturday (1.30pm push back) looking to turn round a two-game losing run.

Bevington asked his side to impose their style of hockey on their Steel City visitors and they duly responded by taking an early lead through Will Rogers.

However, Bankers hit back with two goals in three minutes to take charge of matters before Harry Henderson broke his duck for the first team to level things up at half time. Despite an encouraging first period ‘Gate then conceded three goals in ten second half minutes to make their task all but impossible. Steve Couture and Henderson netted either side of a sixth goal for Bankers to end a thrilling game.

“There were plenty of positives but ten minutes’ lack of concentration was the only difference,” said Bevington.

“We defended well as a team for 60 minutes and created plenty of chances. If we can perform like that in the coming weeks we will start to pick up points again.”

Bevington is expecting another tough test at York, and is urging his side to match the “fight and desire” of Saturday.

“York will be full of confidence and we need to have the same belief and desire as them,” he added.

Harrogate ladies also tasted defeat at home last weekend as they lost 4-1 against league leaders Kirkby Stephen.

They lie in ninth in North Division One and go to Newcastle University on Saturday.
