Harrogate hockey champions reach Olympic Park final

Harrogate Hockey club's under 14s team will have the chance to follow in the footsteps of the biggest names in the sport after earning a chance to play at the Olympic Park.

Harrogate booked a place at the national finals after clinching success in the North of England competition at the weekend.

Playing in front of a large home crowd at Granby Park, Harrogate beat Derwent, Bowdon and Alderley Edge to book their place at Lee Valley later this month.

Coach Gary Nash said: “I am really proud of the boys, they played so well and fought hard for their success.

“They deserve their prize of playing at the Olympic stadium in the footsteps of some of their heroes.

“It was a great day for Harrogate Hockey Club – the boys were spurred on by the support of the big home crowd.

“They were fantastic.”

Harrogate had reached the North of England finals after winning through the Yorkshire qualifying in Halifax last month.

That day the U14s beat Driffield, Ben Rhydding, and Leeds before going on to beat Wakefield in a tense penalty shoot-out in the final.
