West Yorkshire League: Champions shackle Boroughbridge

Boroughbridge failed in their attempts to create a shock against newly crowned West Yorkshire League champions Bardsey at Aldborough Road on Saturday.

Bardsey, champions for a fourth time in five years, thumped Daz Ekin’s men 4-1 to secure a new league record of 74 points.

It left Boroughbridge five points adrift of East End Park in their quest for fifth-spot, but with two games in hand.

Rivals Ripon City are level with them on 40 points, but Bridge have a 14 goal handier goal-difference.

This week, the Blues head to Adel to face third-placed Leeds City away. And Ekin will be taking with him the memories of his side’s 1-0 victory at home in November.

Meanwhile, Bridge Reserves put a gloss on their promotion to West Yorkshire Alliance Division One with a 4-3 win at Baildon Trinity Athletic Reserves.

Jack Herron hit the net twice as Liam Bannard and an own goal secured the win.

Boroughbridge A hammered Hampsthwaite United Reserves 7-0 to continue the Harrogate & District Division Two title race.

Ollie Bone scored four while Ash Richardson, Jake Fletcher and an own goal completed the scoring.

Bridge lie four points behind table-topping Bramham with two games left.
