West Yorkshire League: Bardsey beat Leeds City as Bingley sees red

Reigning champions Bardsey overcame the threat of Leeds City in the West Yorkshire Premier Division to stay second.

Goals from Michael Mills, Steve Mallory and John Swift took Bardsey to a 3-2 victory, despite Lee Barraclough’s men having Graeme Bingley sent off.

The Keswick Lane side remain second, but nine points adrift of runaway leaders Field who thrashed Brighouse Old Boys 7-0.

Knaresborough Town Reserves were as dominant as the pole sitters in their clash against basement boys East End Park.

New signing Sam Kellegher scored twice for Jeff Wells’ men before substitute Brad Walker, part of Harrogate Town’s Under 19 squad, scored a late hat-trick.

Josh Yannock and George Robertson were also on target.

“It’s promising,” said Wells.

“Everyone played their part. I couldn’t really pinpoint any player.

“It’s great when you see the young lads getting on well. In my view, if they are good enough, they are old enough. They just want to get out there and express themselves.”

Ripon City fell to a ninth defeat this season in losing 3-1 at Hunslet Club, while fellow relegation fighters Boroughbridge crashed to a 6-2 loss, Ross Mardon scoring twice.

Meanwhile, Wetherby Athletic’s clash at home to Beeston St Anthony’s was abandoned at half-time due to a waterlogged pitch.

Athletic’s second string almost shocked Alliance Division One leaders Oxenhope Recreation Reserves with Liam McEntee on target in their 2-1 defeat.

Ripon City Reserves led the way in Alliance Division Two, but exited the League Trophy 1-0 at home to Field on Saturday. Luke Fletcher’s double helped Boroughbridge Reserves progress 3-0 over Rothwell Town Reserves.
