Warren Burrell scored a brace on debut while goals from Lloyd Kerry, Paul Clayton, Danny Ellis and Joe Colbeck completed an unlikely rout. With victory, Town returned to the National League North play-off zone, while Solihull’s gap at the top of the table was chopped to just one point.

"It was a really good performance and it will make for a good weekend," Weaver said.

"Solihull are a good team, they are up there for a reason and had accumulated ten points more than us so we wanted to prove a point that we could bridge that gap.

"It was a one-off game, a big challenge for us and they murdered us 4-0 here last year.

"We wanted to prove a point that we have come on a long way and every man played so well today and did the club proud."

The scoreline was Town’s biggest margin of victory under Weaver and the first time the biggest league win since the Sulphurites were promoted into the sixth tier of football.

Weaver has previously seen his side score six goals on two other occasions in the league, against Corby Town and Brackley during the 2012/13 campaign.

The boss reflected: "We had a similar game plan a few years ago on a heavy pitch and we beat Brackley who had won nine and drawn one at the time.

"That was definitely up there but I think we had even more quality on show today. Second half, every time we went forward we showed that composure and desire.

"In both areas we were good so it was a complete performance. But we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves. We want to keep level headed and know that it was hard work that got us the win.”

Such a jaw-dropping performance will have no doubt awoken the National League North to Town’s promotion credentials.

Weaver’s men still have two games in hand on Solihull with a seven point gap to the topspot.

But the boss played down the club’s play-off bid and insisted no one at the CNG Stadium would get carried away.

He added: "We have said all along that we have good players, a great spirit and the ingredients to do really well this season. That’s why we've been consistently up there.

"There’s a carrot there to be even more than just in the pack. We have to prove it week in week out like Solihull have done.

"It makes you hungry for more when you put on a performance like that in front of the home fans.

"There’s all the incentives in the world to keep playing with that attitude and application. We have to repeat that.

"Seven points is still a big gap. It’s okay saying you've got games in hand but you have to win them.

"We have shown we can be ruthless and that should give us confidence to do the same."
