Weaver backs second string Harrogate Town strikers to cope with Jerry Yates exit

Harrogate Town will not dip into the transfer market to replace talented striker Jerry Yates, according to boss Simon Weaver.

Yates was recalled by parent club Rotherham United on Monday and is set for a loan spell on the books of another professional outfit.

The 19-year-old was a lively presence up front for Town and scored four goals in two short spells.

Town boss Weaver said: "He showed all his potential and he is starting to realise it at a young age.

"He showed it last season at Railway and we monitored him then he added more muscle over the summer to come on again. That dedication can see a young lad turn into a man.

"We wish him all the best. He did a great job for us and his attitude was spot on."

Yates had forged a dynamic link-up with Dominic Knowles, who is set for a spell on the sidelines through injury.

With both unavailable, Weaver may have been tempted to secure the services of another striker to boost the club’s promotion hopes.

But he has opted to back Jordan Thewlis, Paul Clayton and December signing Lassana Sidibe ahead of Saturday’s visit of top of the table Solihull Moors.

Weaver added: "We have good players in the squad.

"Lassana has joined and looked sharp. He is another one that gives 100 per cent and reminds me of Chib Chilaka when he came, wanting to turn defenders and strike goalwards.

"Jordan has been the unlucky one in the squad a few times. Paul Clayton is back in the fold and scored twice at Hednesford and we also have the option of using Jack Emmett up front.

"We won’t be jumping into bringing anyone else in. It’s a chance to show what they are made of when they get to start.

"It would not be good for them if I went and got someone else in."
