Warren Burrell hails Harrogate Town's win at Mansfield Town as one of their best since promotion

Harrogate Town may not have produced a scintillating footballing display at Mansfield, but Warren Burrell is still classing Tuesday's victory as one of their best since promotion to the EFL.

Winless in League Two in their previous six outings, the Sulphurites were gritty and determined throughout and ultimately left Field Mill with all three points courtesy of Calvin Miller's first-half goal.

And, Burrell feels that Town were good value for a success over in-form opponents who came into the fixture unbeaten in six and having won three of their last four.

"Obviously we were desperate for three points. We came with a game-plan and executed the game-plan well. We were solid throughout, energy was good throughout and we've got the win we've been crying out for the last few weeks," he said.

"We just went back to basics. Back to 4-4-2, high energy - which we base our game on - and winning first and second balls, and we did that throughout the 90 minutes, which is why we got the win.

"Some of our performances have been good and we've come away with no points, but some of them haven't been good enough at all, so it was just about getting points on the board here and I think we thoroughly deserved them.

"We've played better football in other games but this one is up there with our best wins of the season."

Versatile Burrell has spent this season playing at either left-back or right-back, but was deployed in the centre of the Town defence against the Stags following a decent showing from the substitutes' bench at Leyton Orient on Saturday.

Back in one of his favoured positions, the 30-year-old delivered arguably his finest performance of 2020/21 and admitted that he enjoyed his night's work.

"I enjoy playing centre-half," he added.

"Obviously I've not played there in a while, but I came on there on Saturday and played there again tonight and I know what I need to do in that position and feel that I did it well.

"When you're playing centre-half you've just got to defend your goal, that's your job really, so if you can get the blocks in that's good."
