Town stop rot as young pretenders come to fore

Boss Simon Weaver fielded an inexperienced line-up in Saturday’s 2-1 victory and the young pretenders brought the CNG Stadium to life with an energetic performance.

Early goals from Hull City loanee Ryan Fallowfield and new signing Andy Gascoigne put Town into the ascendancy, before the defence withstood a late Boston barrage.

It ended a run of nine matches without a win, and shocked a team pushing for the play-offs in Vanarama Conference North.

Town signed Sheffield Wednesday youngster Cecil Nyoni on the eve of the clash, and the Zimbabwean started in a team that contained eight players under 25.

And ahead of this Saturday’s trip to fifth-placed Solihull Moors, Weaver said the plans would remain.

The boss said: “We were committed to give the young lads a go.

“It’s not their fault we are where we are in the table, and we allowed them to go and express themselves. The injection of pace gave us a vitality we haven’t had.

“It lifts the supporters when they see the free spirits that these guys have. I know it’s only one game but the reaction from the fans was fantastic.”
