The men from the CNG Stadium claimed their first league triumph since September when they overcame AFC Telford United on Saturday, before beating Salford City in Tuesday night’s FA Trophy replay clash.

And the Town boss believes that the results could prove a turning point as the club look to get their season back on track following a run of just one win in 10 matches.

“At half-time at Salford on Tuesday I said to the lads that if they could hold on for a win then it’s the sort of result that could prove a turning point,” Weaver said.

“We had nine men missing and Wayne Brooksby being sick in addition to both Simon Ainge and Andi Thanoj struggling with illness.

“The players showed great character to come through a really tough test and I think we can kick on from here.

“I’ve said previously that we just needed to get that first win under our belts and then we would be back on track.

“We played very well to beat Telford at the weekend, and that in turn has allowed us to go to Salford in confident mood and pick up another result.”

Tuesday’s victory over the Ammies saw the club progress to the FA Trophy first round for the first time since 2010 and set up a home clash with Conference National high-flyers Barrow this weekend.

The Cumbrians are on a 21-match unbeaten run that stretches back as far as August, but Weaver says his team will go into the game confident of making it three wins in a row.

“Obviously it’s going to be very tough, but the pressure is completely off us, so it’s a bit of a free hit really,” he added.

“Our ambition is to win the game and there’s no reason why we can’t. I know there will be a big crowd and it’s a match that we’re looking forward to.”
