HARROGATE Town held their nerve to record a 3-2 Blue Square North victory at home to Stafford Rangers on Tuesday night.
Simon Weaver’s troops made up for Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at home to Nuneaton, and got off to a flying start as Gary King scored after just two minutes.
He latched on to Ciaran Toner’s free kick.
Steve Bowey went close to doubling their advantage from the spot after Richard Pell was elbowed in the box, but the penalty was saved by Rangers ‘keeper Lee Evans.
Town went 2-0 ahead in the 33rd minute when Andy Hutchinson scored before Lee Ellington slammed in Town’s third soon after.
Rangers battled back 14 minutes into the second half with a goal by Craig McAughtrie, before Jermain Jackson’s last minute strike reduecd the deficit further.
But Rangers ended the game with nine men after both McAughtrie and Levi Reid were both shown the red card.
Town return to action a week on Saturday away at Solihull Moors in the Blue Square North.
