Leeds kicked off Town’s summer friendly list last season but the fixture between the teams proved to be a damp squib, when a young Leeds United XI lost 2-0.

But that 12 months ago has not stopped fans flocking to Wetherby Road to enquire about tickets for this season’s derby encounter, which will take place on July 10 at 7.30pm,

“It will be a really big game, and is an exciting start for the new players,” said Town boss Weaver.

“We have been talking about it for a little while so it’s been great to finally set a date.

“With it being Uwe’s first game, there’s already been a lot of interest and the phones have been manic.

“Hopefully we can forge an even closer link between the clubs as that would lead to so many benefits for a club like us.”

The clash will be also be a first opportunity for former Bradford City winger Joe Colbeck to pull on a yellow and black shirt after signing for Town this week.

The winger has been snapped up from Bradford Park Avenue, where he scored two goals in 38 games last season.
