Taddy draw a blank against bottom side

Boss Billy Miller made four changes to the side that lost to Kendal, Dan Thirkell making his full debut, Gary Stevens his second debut for the club, while Conor Sellars returned to the starting XI alongside Liam Shepherd.

On a mild afternoon, the Brewers dominated possession and kept the ball well in the opening quarter of an hour but again, such has the theme been in recent weeks, created virtually nothing in the final third.

Jason Mycoe’s unchallenged drive across the face of goal was pretty much the highlight of a very uneventful first half.

Taddy had the most joy down their right-hand side as full-back Mycoe received the ball deep in the opposition’s half time and again.

When winger Adam Baker marauded down that same flank, Shepherd’s carefully placed shot was blocked by Ryan Schofield.

Burscough did muster one effort before half-time, although it ended up in the car park as Elliott Nevitt curled a free-kick way over the top of the main stand.

The second half started in similar fashion to the first, Taddy in control and peppering the right flank.

Miller’s men looked more buoyant and threatening after the break, and the first big chance of the match came minutes after the hour-mark as Baker guided onto the head of Tom Corner who nodded narrowly over the top.

The visitors were being put under serious pressure in the second 45, but continued to defend well as Reece McNally brilliantly blocked Sellars’ goalbound effort.

Every teasing cross that came into the Greens’ danger area was cleared superbly by Schofield and co.

In the 68th minute, the aforementioned Schofield was at it again. Josh Grant did brilliantly to nip between two green shirts and fire a cross down the corridor but Schofield took it off the toe of Mycoe who was waiting to tap past debutant Marcus Burgess.

Corner was proving to be a real menace in the air, for the umpteenth time this season and Burscough struggled to deal with the towering forward who came close to breaking the deadlock once again but could only arrow his header onto the roof of the net before heading straight at Burgess moments later.

Stevens didn’t have much to in the home goal on his second debut for the Brewers, but when called upon, his kicking and catching was impressive.

Corner showed that he again had the beating of the Burscough enforcers, but with 15 minutes to go he glanced inches wide of the left-hand upright as frustration grew around the i2i.

It was complete one-way traffic by the closing stages and in the dying seconds Taddy were appealing loudly for a penalty.

Schofield failed to deal with Mycoe’s forward ball and Baker pounced and superbly jinked between McNally and Hill before squaring past goalkeeper Burgess towards Sellars.

Sellars went for the Cryuff finish, but a lunge from Keenan Quansah saw vociferous shouts for a spot-kick, however referee Shane Sugden waved away the appeals and that was the final piece of action.
