But, with the January transfer window now open, manager Simon Weaver has confirmed that reinforcements are on their way.

The Sulphurites chief has made no secret of his intention to strengthen a squad lacking depth in certain areas, and revealed this week that deals for three loan targets are close to being completed.

Moves for a pair of attackers and a left-footed midfielder should be finalised in the coming days, with all three players set to sign until the end of the season.

“There’s a couple of players that we are pretty much there with and another one who is also very close,” Weaver said.

“Everything is agreed, we’re just waiting for the final paperwork to be signed off.

“These are three good players who will make a difference. We’re not in for stocking-fillers, we’ve gone for lads who will come in and be competing for starting places immediately.

“We need players who are able to hit the ground running.”

Weaver has already added ex-Manchester City midfielder Ed Francis - a free agent following his departure from Wolverhampton Wanderers - to his squad, and is not ruling out further incomings later in the window.

"We might potentially look at a couple of others,” he added.

“We could do with some cover at left-back and maybe another option at the top end of the pitch, but it would most likely be one or the other, rather than both.”
