The 24-year-old right-back joined winger George Thomson in agreeing terms on an improved deal at the CNG Stadium on Tuesday.

Fallowfield has already helped Simon Weaver’s team to two promotions in the space of just three seasons since re-joining the Sulphurites on a permanent basis in the summer of 2017.

The undoubted highlight was Town’s National League play-off final win over Notts County at Wembley earlier this month, a victory which saw the club promoted to the Football League for the first time in its 106-year history.

And, the ex-Hull City defender is confident that there is more to come.

“We’ve been promoted, which is great but we’ve got to forget about that and look to the next step now,” said Fallowfield, who made 33 appearances in 2019/20, scoring twice.

“I always try to think about what I can do next. As a team we need to have a real good go in League Two and see where we end up.

“I think we’ll surprise a lot of teams with our energy and fitness levels and the quality we’ve got. I’m not saying that we’re going to storm League Two or run through the division, but we are ambitious.

“This is just the start four us. Next season is about trying to be better as there’s still a lot more that we want to achieve.”

And, while Fallowfield and his Town team-mates now have a new challenge in the Football League to sink their teeth into, he says that there was more to his decision to extend his stay than just wanting to play in League Two.

“Once the dust settled on Wembley it seemed like the right time to speak to the gaffer about a new deal,” he revealed.

“The gaffer knows that I only want to be here. It wouldn’t have made any difference if we hadn’t been promoted. Ending up in the Football League is just a bonus.

“But, the club is looking to make the next step and establish itself as a League Two team and I want to be a part of that.

“It was an easy decision. I’ve enjoyed pretty much every minute of my time here, so it was straightforward for me and I think it will have been pretty straightforward for the club too.”
