'Pressure all on Worksop Town' in crunch NCEL showdown, insists Tadcaster Albion boss

Tadcaster Albion and Worksop Town are embroiled in a fierce title challenge in Northern Counties East League

The two sides are locked in an intense battle for promotion at the top of the Premier division and tensions are likely to reach boiling point again at the weekend.

Worksop stretched their gap over Tad at the top of the table to eight points on Wednesday night with a thumping 8-1 win over Garforth Town.

However, Miller’s side have had the upper hand in their two meetings with Worksop this season. The Brewers won 2-1 in the league in October before renewing their rivalry in a thumping 4-1 victory in the FA Vase third round in December.

Miller said: "The pressure is all on them. We have beaten them twice already, and twice convincingly.

"Worksop are not going to win the league by beating us on Saturday.

"They will do so by beating all the other teams around us and they are struggling to do that, if you look at their record against the top seven teams.

"Given that we haven’t played, we go into the game as the underdogs.

"But that doesn't worry us. We can take heart from our performances against them.

"If we win on Saturday it would be a phenomenal boost for us. To beat them three times would be a great achievement, but it’s only an achievement if we fulfil our potential. There’s no point beating Worksop three times and then finishing fifth."

The potential title decider has been switched to Selby Town due to ongoing floodlight problems at Tad’s i2i Stadium. Miller did not envisage the ground share would provide problems with his squad despite losing out on home advantage.

"I don’t think it changes anything other than our supporters having to travel," the boss added.

"Me and Heathy (assistant manager Matt Heath) will go down there on Thursday to have a quick look around and get familiar. Because of the nature of the Non League circuit, many of the players have already played there so I don't see there being a problem."

Albion warmed up for the crunch with back-to-back victories following over a month without a game.

Jimmy Beadle’s hat-trick gave the Brewers a 3-1 win over lowly Brigg Town in the league on Saturday.

Goals from Conor Sellars, Adam Baker and Jonathan Greening put Albion past Parkgate 3-1 in the NCEL League Cup third round on Tuesday night.
