Premier League newboys Burnley offer trial to Harrogate Town goalkeeper Peter Crook

Harrogate Town goalkeeper Peter Crook has been offered a trial at Premier League newcomers Burnley, the player's agent has confirmed.

The goalkeeper has attracted the attention of several Football League scouts after keeping 19 clean sheets during Town’s promotion challenge last season.

He also earned a first international call-up with the England C squad.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche will take a look at Crook in training over the next few days.

As Crook signed a one-year contract at Town in May, the National League North outfit can command a fee for the young keeper.

Crook’s agent Louise Fellows said: “We haven’t had any firm offers yet for Peter. He is training with Burnley at the moment to look at him until Saturday.

“His hard work has attracted attention from the Premier League down.

“With 19 clean sheets last season, he’s certainly doing something right.”

Reports have suggested Crook had been approached by new Leeds United boss Garry Monk and Premier League side Swansea City but those claims have been dismissed by Town.

Town boss Simon Weaver confirmed several enquiries had been made for the player prior to Tuesday’s 3-0 pre-season friendly win over Knaresborough Town and has been looking at former Huddersfield Town stopper Lloyd Allinson, 22, as a potential replacement.

Crook joined Town at the start of the 2013/14 campaign but spent the season on dual registration at neighbours Harrogate Railway.

On his return he played second fiddle to Phil Barnes until breaking into the first team fold midway through the 2014/15 season.

He established himself as Weaver’s number one and decided against taking up a scholarship in the United States to stay for Town’s record league finish last season.
