Peter Crook glad to have rejected United States move for Harrogate Town stay

Crook earned the man of the match award in Harrogate Town’s 1-0 win over Worcester City on Saturday after saving a crucial penalty from Sean Geddes just before half-time.

The save was the young goalkeeper’s second from 12 yards in successive matches, however Grimsby’s Omar Bogle headed home the follow-up to his denied effort in Town’s FA Cup defeat to Grimsby Town.

Crook turned down an opportunity to study in the United States in the summer to remain as Town’s number one.

And after his man of the match display, the keeper admitted he had not looked back since.

“I was at Harrogate Railway two years ago on dual registration.

“I have come a long way and I’m really enjoying my football at the minute so it’s all good, “ Crook said.

“I got an offer from America to do my Masters over there but the gaffer persuaded me to stay and it’s worked out so far and I’m enjoying my football.

“I’m glad of the opportunity I have here. Going out to America would have been a great opportunity, but being here is even better.

“I have made a great choice.”

Crook is into his third year at the CNG Stadium and has become a mainstay in goal since taking over the number one jersey from Phil Barnes last season.

He is hopeful the club can continue their strong form and bag a first play-off spot under Weaver.

The goalkeeper added: “We have shown great character throughout the whole season.

“It’s a sign of a good team when you can grind out results but we are looking to get a big result under our belts.

“Once we get that, that’s when we are going to start beating teams more comfortably.”
