Manchester United treble winner Jonathan Greening makes surprise appearance for Tadcaster Albion Under 21s

Greening featured against Scarborough Athletic U21s in Pocklington and helped the Brewers to a 1-0 victory, with the goal scored by young prospect Ryan Woodhead.

Boss Billy Miller said the former Manchester United and York City midfielder was set to start for the first team at relegation-threatened Brigg Town on Saturday.

Miller used the U21s game as an opportunity to get much-needed mileage into four other members of his first-team squad, with Nick Thompson, George Conway, Andy Milne and Jordan Armstrong all appearing.

"It was great to have one or two of them get some pitch time," said Miller.

"Jono is such a humble person. To go and do that was class from him and it will stand him in good stead going into the next few games.

"He was so good with the younger players and got them to relax on the ball, so it was massive for the kids."

The match at Brigg will be Tad’s first competitive fixture for 35 days with flooding disrupting their season.

In that time, Miller’s men have dropped to fifth in the NCEL Premier but victories in their games in hand would see them return to their perch at the top.

"We have to be careful not to let the lads get ahead of themselves," Miller added.

"It’s nice to have the points on the board but we have now got to play catch up and this team is more than capable of doing that."

Title rivals Worksop Town recovered from their mid-season blip with successive 4-0 wins earlier this month but the run was blunted in a 1-1 draw at Albion Sports on Wednesday evening.

Asked if he was worried by Worksop's return to form in January, Miller said: "Not in the slightest.

"We don’t need to worry about anybody else. If everybody was on the same games and we win our games in hand, we would be top.

"We just need to concentrate on ourselves."

Saturday's opponents Brigg were trailing at the bottom of the table in the early part of the season and Taddy hammered them 5-0 in August, with Josh Greening - Jonathan's brother - at the double.

But the Lincolnshire side have since climbed up to 19th with three wins in their last four matches and Miller is wary of the dangers ahead.

"They have picked up a bit since changing manager," he said.

"I don’t think it will be as easy as it was when we played them the first time. They held Handsworth for 55 minutes on Tuesday so we will have to be patient."

The match at Brigg has been switched to a 2pm kick-off due to floodlight problems.
