'˜Lack of concentration' costs Railway a point

Harrogate Railway Athletic boss Paul Beesley bemoaned a 'lack of concentration' from his players as they slipped to a stoppage-time defeat to Garforth Town.

The Locomotives conceded right at the very end of each half to finish up on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline at Station View on Saturday.

“I’m very disappointed,” Beesley said.

“We conceded in the 46th minute against Cleethorpes last week, and we’ve done the same thing again against Garforth. Then to make things worse, we make the same mistake in stoppage time and it has cost us a point.

“It’s a lack of concentration. We’ve let goals in at really bad times. If we’d gone in 1-0 up at half-time then it’s a different game. But gifting them an equaliser when we did just shifted the momentum.

“We have to switch on for 90 minutes and start learning from our mistakes.”

Fraser Hansen’s 20-yard effort had given Rail a 21st-minute lead in the NCEL Premier Division clash, but Lee Turner levelled things up on the stroke of half-time.

Luke McCrum’s last-gasp strike then condemned the hosts to a second consecutive defeat, and Beesley conceded that his team did not deserve to win the game.

“I don’t think we played well. Maybe a draw would have been a fair result but we definitely didn’t deserve all three points,” he added.

“Garforth at home is one we should be winning, or at least making sure we aren’t getting beat.

“It’s a hard one to take, but the good thing is that the next game comes around quickly and we can look to put things right at Hemsworth on Tuesday evening.”
