Knaresborough Town recorded a third victory in as many games when they beat Worsbrough Bridge Athletic 3-1 at Manse Lane.

Saturday’s triumph follows wins over Nostell Miners Welfare and Grimsby Borough and leaves Paul Stansfield’s men second in NCEL Division One.

Knaresborough went ahead with 33 minutes on the clock when Brad Walker, who had earlier seen an effort disallowed, headed in a Dominic Wilson cross from the right.

Town stopper Jack Rusworth then saved from Ben Grech, but Worsbrough levelled when Bradley Kerr was allowed to cut in from the right and drive home a fine shot in the 43rd minute.

Walker had a great chance to restore his side’s lead just after the break, but visiting goalkeeper Richard Watson was able to grab the ball and thwart him.

Knaresborough did however go back in front in the 54th minute after Watson could only parry a header from Gregg Anderson and Blaine Hobson managed to direct the loose ball home.

Ben Parkes saw a fine effort pushed around the post and then fired over from Greg Kidd’s centre from the left.

Walker had a chance saved before shooting wide from a narrow angle after breaking clear of the away defence.

At the other end, Rushworth had to be alert to keep out a Chris Walton shot, but soon afterwards, Ben Cohen smashed in Town’s third after Walker’s pass following a good amount of home pressure.

Steve Bromley saw a strike deflected against the crossbar before Bridge’s Grech also hit the woodwork from distance.

Walker had a late chance deflected wide before Bromley broke clear, steadied himself, but then shot just past the post as the hosts sought to improve their margin of victory.

Next up for Stansfield’s troops is a trip to Campion, 3pm kick-off on Saturday.
