Knaresborough Town 1-1 Harrogate Railway: Kidd denies Boro in derby

Greg Kidd’s second half equaliser stopped Knaresborough Town taking the scalp of neighbours Harrogate Railway in Tuesday night’s pre-season friendly at Manse Lane.

Kidd cancelled out Graham Whitehead’s deflected strike to leave it honour’s even – in a clash which saw a spectrum of changes in the second period.

An underwhelming first half hour saw little in the way of chances although George Eustance fashioned one opportunity with a neat touch over a defender only to shoot straight at Rail’ keeper Tom Goodwin.

The breakthrough came for Boro on 36 minutes after Eustace sprinted down the right wing. His cross found Whitehead, whose shot took a heavy deflection before nestling into the bottom corner.

Brad Walker came close to doubling the advantage in the minutes before half-time as he struck the post with a wicked shot.

Railway came out with more gusto in the second half, and were often taken upfield by the pace Cameron Lyn. The winger forced the equaliser too, as he sped to the byline before putting a cross on the plate of Kidd, who swept the ball home into the far corner.

As the changes came, the match became fragmented and neither side could find a winner.
