Scotton Scorchers Girls U-12s entertained League leaders Knaresborough Celtic and were eventually beaten 3-1.

After going behind in the first two minutes, Scotton rallied and pushed Celtic in a gritty first half.

Both sides had further chances before midfielder Izzy Bird finished from close range to equalise for Scotton.

Knaresborough responded and found the net to take a 2-1 lead into half time In a competitive second half, Celtic increased their lead to eventually run out 3-1 winners. Scotton player of the match was defender Anya Swift.

Knaresborough Towns Juniors - competing this year at U-11s and U-8s - have had a great first half of the season.

The U-11s flew out of the blocks with some great displays in development games against Pannal Ash, Kirk Deighton, Boroughbridge plus a clean sweep of victories versus Leeds City.

In the first ‘Trophy League’ the boys qualified top from their group and went onto the ‘Champions League’ group with Wetherby, Ilkley and Wigton Moor.

A really tight division saw some great games and the boys were unlucky, despite victory over Wigton Moor, not to be able to beat them to the top spot.

The season restarts again now with the chance of levelling some scores as the they face both Wigton Moor and Wetherby in January with further games v Lawnswood among others before the season’s second Trophy League kicks off in March, with the boys looking to go one better this time.

The newest Knaresborough Town team, the U-8s, launched in September with the focus on Saturday training, core skills and some friendly games.

The team developed really well and in the five-aside games played against Celtic, Wetherby and Scotton came away with a mixtures of wins, losses and draws but always showing real determination, teamwork and no little ability.

Now the team is looking to grow the group further in readiness for next season.

If you have a child in year 2 or year 3 who wants to get fit, improve their skills and get involved, the team train Saturday mornings at Knaresborough Forest Cricket Club.
