Injuries blight evening wins for Knaresborough Town

Reserve team goalkeeper Steve Weatherhill required surgery to repair a ruptured spleen that was bleeding into his stomach after a foul during Wednesday night’s 3-2 win over Bardsey.

On Thursday, Knaresborough’s official accounted tweeted: “Get well soon to keeper @mufc1999steve who is in hospital this morning with internal bleeding after a foul last night against @bardseyfc

Later adding: “Just learnt that @mufc1999steve has been transferred to York Hospital for a operation. The thoughts of us all at the club are with him.”

Weatherhill went under the knife on Thursday evening.

Knaresborough posted on Facebook on Friday morning to say the operation was a success.

The club statement read: “Steve had a operation last night to repair a ruptured spleen that was bleeding into his stomach.
“The operation went well and in St eve’s own words he is feeling rough but the morphine helps!!!
“Everyone’s thoughts are with Steve and his family and of course we all wish him a speedy recovery.”

On Tuesday evening, club captain Matt Duerden fractured his arm three times in the first team’s 3-0 win over Dronfield Town.

Boro’s captain went up for a header before hitting the floor hard under a strong aerial challenge and underwent surgery at Rotherham hospital yesterday morning.

Duerden has since hinted that he will retire from semi-professional football following the injury.
