Harrogate Town's summer transfer window wish-list revealed
Harrogate Town manager Simon Weaver has provided an insight into the areas which he is looking to strengthen during the close season.
The League Two Sulphurites completed their first bit of business of the summer transfer window when they swooped to sign midfielder Alex Pattison from Wycombe Wanderers earlier this week.
Weaver has confirmed that he has had a conversation with out-of-contract Southend United goalkeeper Mark Oxley and is also pursuing a number of other outfield targets.
“We want a left-back, another centre-half and a left winger, plus and addition or two up front,” he told the Harrogate Advertiser.
“I’m talking to a left-back and have also spoken to another lad who plays in that position who has been released by a club in League One, but he’s adamant he wants to stay in that division.
“We’re looking at a centre-forward and I’m just awaiting an update on his situation because I know that there are three or four other teams also keen on signing him.
“We - Paul Thirlwell, Lee Barraclough and myself - have been peppered by agents this summer, but as is always the case, it’s just about making sure we find the lads who are right for us.”
Following the release of eight out-of-contract players and the return to their parent club of five loanees, plenty of incomings are expected at Wetherby Road over the coming months, though Weaver doesn't believe that he will need quite as big a squad in 2021/22 as he did last term.
"We probably carried two or three extra bodies last season because of the the circumstances with Covid-19," he added.
"Like I say, we have a number of targets and more than one option in each position and we are looking to strengthen the squad.
"We have released eight, but I wouldn't envisage quite as many as that coming in."
