Harrogate Town's Connor Hall aiming to keep contributing goals from defence

The 25-year-old netted decisive strikes during recent victories over Maidenhead United and Ebbsfleet, taking his tally for the season to four.

He opened his account in what was just his second competitive outing for Town, away at Barrow back in August, but then went four months without a goal before his recent purple patch.

“I scored six from defence last season and I’ve usually managed between eight and 10 in previous years, so when I only had one goal by December I was wondering where the next one was gonna come from,” Hall said.

“I felt like I should be scoring more and the gaffer spoke to me and Will [Smith] about contributing with goals from centre-half, so it’s been nice to get three more in the last month.

“They were well overdue, but obviously I’m happy to be chipping in and I don’t see why I can’t keep on scoring.

“They’ve all been different types of goals, only one of them has been a header from a corner, and hopefully there are more to come. There should be.”

Hall’s most recent strike, the first in Town’s 2-0 triumph at Ebbsfleet, certainly falls into the spectacular category.

The ball looped up to him on the edge of the area and he met it first-time with a sweet volley, which flew into the top corner.

"I didn’t have time to get back into the penalty area after the ball was cleared initially, but I just tried to get myself into a decent position on the edge of the box,” he added.

“As it was coming down I remember thinking that I had to take it early, otherwise I’d be connecting at the same time as the defender in front of me.

“Luckily, I’ve caught it nicely and it’s flown in the top corner.

“As soon as I hit it I knew I’d made a good connection. I was just trying to get it on target, I wasn’t aiming for the top corner, but obviously I was very happy with where it’s ended up.”
