The sides could not be separated in Saturday’s meeting at the National League South outfit’s Clarence Park, Joe Leesley’s 93rd-minute strike earning his side a late reprieve.

Yet, Town went on to dominate second time around, creating a host of chances on home turf and netting five unanswered goals as snow fell around them.

Centre-half Warren Burrell set the ball rolling, getting forward from defence to nod in Leesley’s 12th-minute free-kick.

Jack Emmett and Dominic Knowles both came close to adding to the home tally, but there were no more goals before half-time.

Simon Weaver’s men remained in the ascendancy after the interval and only some fine last-ditch defending and excellent work by City goalkeeper Dean Snedker prevented them from extending their lead.

A richly-deserved second goal did however arrive in the 64th minute when Simon Ainge was picked out by George Thomson and the former fed his strike partner Knowles to pick out the bottom corner.

Burrell then registered his second of the night with 72 minutes on the clock to end the game as a contest, getting a touch on Josh Falkingham’s low strike for 3-0.

Number four arrived when Knowles burst through on goal, only to be tackled by a covering defender, but the ball broke for Leesley to finish with ease.

Thomson then rounded things off in added-time after getting on the end of a deep cross to the back post and slotting past Snedker.
