Harrogate Town: Weaver warning as Town return to winning ways

Town ended a barren run of four games without a win with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Brackley Town on October 25 and followed that up by beating Stockport County 2-1 and Albion Sports 2-0 this week.

Goals from James Walshaw and Lloyd Kerry gave Town the three points against Stockport while Louie Swain and Shane Killock helped overcome Albion Sports at the CNG Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Weaver’s side are now through to the third round of the West Riding County Cup and the Town manager said the side will now be ‘concentrating on their consistency’.

He said: “It’s great to have a bit of forward momentum and the victory comes on the back of some great performances but now it’s about consistency in terms of going forward.

“I’ve been saying all along the big thing is getting a few players back from injury. That has been instrumental in our turnaround because you need your best players.

“We have come through a struggle but if we take our foot off the gas then it will be back to people pointing fingers and saying ‘get out the club’ and we don’t want that.

“We want a return to form and we want a run of good stories and people discussing how well we are playing.”

Weaver fielded a mixture of squad fringe players and Under 19 development players for the match and goals in each half earned Town a third round tie against Thackley on December 6.

“We tried to get some minutes into the other lads on Tuesday night and I told them that I wanted some balls in the box to test their back four,” Weaver explained.

“I wanted the wingers to express themselves when they got the ball and we had the team working in pairs and working as a collective unit.”

Weaver’s side will be looking to make it three league wins out of three in the Vanarama North when they travel to Gloucester City on Saturday.

After Town’s recent run of good results and positive performances, Weaver said he wouldn’t be looking too change the team too much but was weary of revealing his tactics before the match.

He said: “I like to keep the opposition guessing about tactics. I don’t really like to reveal too much about it but when we have won three on the bounce you don’t want to change things too much.

“Everyone on the pitch has a shared purpose and wants the same thing. We’ve played a lot of good football in the last few games and we want to keep driving forward.”
