Harrogate Town v Walsall: Jack Muldoon reveals how he plans to add to his goal-tally against the Saddlers

Having netted twice from the left of midfield in Harrogate Town’s last League Two outing, Jack Muldoon is aiming for more of the same when Walsall visit the Keepmoat Stadium tomorrow (Saturday).

The versatile 31-year-old attacker produced a pair of tidy finishes during the newly-promoted North Yorkshire club’s 4-0 rout of Southend United on the opening day, a result that sees them begin the weekend top of the table.

And Muldoon, who has ended both of the previous two campaigns as Harrogate’s top-scorer, is confident that he can deliver once again.

“I’m definitely confident that I can contribute again like I did against Southend,” the ex-Lincoln City man said.

“Whether I’m playing up top or out wide, I see it as my responsibility to try and score goals. Goals change games. Goals win games.

“I’m happy to do my bit defensively if I’m on the wing, but you need to get into the box whenever you can and become that third striker – that’s what I’m always telling our wingers when I’m playing through the middle.

“The more bodies we have in the opposition box, the more chance of the ball finding a Harrogate shirt when it gets delivered in there, and the more opportunities we’ll get to score.

“I managed to get into some decent positions at Southend and that’s exactly what I’ll be looking to do against Walsall.”

Muldoon made his 100th Town appearance against West Bromwich Albion in midweek and admitted that he’s surprised how quickly he has reached that milestone, having only joined the club in the summer of 2018.

“I didn’t know it was going to be my 100th game until the day before and I was quite surprised to be honest,” he added.

“The Hawthorns isn’t a bad place to play your 100th game is it? I’m obviously happy that I’ve been able to feature as regularly as I have.

“I’ve been quite fortunate with injuries but I keep myself as fit as I can and do a lot of extra training in my own time and it’s pleasing to see that work paying off.

"I've absolutely loved my time at Harrogate so far and I've still got another two years on my contract here so hopefully this is just the beginning."

Town's clash with Walsall kicks-off at 3pm at Doncaster Rovers' Keepmoat Stadium, the Sulphurites' temporary home while work continues on relaying a new grass pitch at their Wetherby Road base.
