Speight has struggled for goals up front for Town this season after joining the CNG Stadium at the start of the season.

An injury in pre-season ruined the striker’s preparations for the new campaign and he missed the opening month of action.

Town boss Simon Weaver expected the former Bradford City man to “rip up” the league on his return to fitness. However, the 29-year-old has found life difficult in a Town shirt.

In 26 appearances, Speight has only scored two goals in the Conference North this season, while his two other strikes came in the FA Cup and FA Trophy.

He joins Harrogate teammate Simon Lenighan at the Vanarama Conference Premier side, the side he left at the end of the 2013/14 season.

The deal looks likely to confirm an extended deal for Paul Clayton to remain in Harrogate after his loan deal finishes at the end of March.
