Harrogate Town in 'good position' after Grimsby Town success, but know they haven't 'cracked it' yet

The win was the rejuvenated Sulphurites' fifth in their last seven matches and leaves them within five points of the division's play-off places.

Understandably encouraged by his team's impressive recent form, manager Simon Weaver feels that Town have got themselves into a "good position", though insists that there is no room for complacency if the club is to cement its place in the Football League.

"Five wins out of seven makes us a team that has been in form over this last batch of games, but you can never just think that you have cracked it," Weaver said, speaking after Saturday's 1-0 success.

"We have to keep going with the same desire and keep churning results out, it's as simple as that. The momentum is good at the minute, we want to keep building it.

"We wanted to get to a 15-point cushion between us and the bottom two because we felt it would take the pressure off a little bit and now we've fought our way into a position where we're asking, can we peck away at the two or three teams above us? It's a good position to be in.

"We are ambitious. We came into this one thinking 'two wins now would put us in a fantastic place', but equally there's that fear factor because you know that if you lose two against the bottom two then they can be within six points of you.

"We just have to keep chalking off wins and show how much we want to stay in this division."

Having dominated the first half of Saturday's contest against the struggling Mariners, things went flat for Harrogate after the interval.

And it took the arrival of substitute Mark Beck to spark them into life, the big striker heading home from Ryan Fallowfield's right-wing cross on 77 minutes to settle matters.

"I thought that we were excellent in the first half, we switched the play well and caused Grimsby a lot of problems," Weaver added.

"We just didn't have the bounce of the ball in our favour and didn't have the finishing edge in front of goal. Second half we didn't perform as well, we didn't reach those same heights.

"We started the second half and I don't think it was brilliant. I don't think that anyone really stood out. We needed a catalyst, so credit to the substitutes for being ready to come on and make a difference. It was clever movement from Mark Beck and a very good header.

"We're pleased with the three points, but you can't come away thinking 'it's all brilliant' just because we have won. There are things to improve upon, however the players deserve credit for getting us over the line. They found a way, in the end."
