Harrogate Town freeze ticket prices as a 'reward' for loyal supporters

Simon Weaver says that Harrogate Town have acted to freeze match-day admission prices as a “reward” for their supporters’ loyalty.

The National League promotion-hopefuls announced this week that there will be no increase in the cost of attending fixtures at the CNG Stadium in 2020/21, regardless of whether the club end up playing their football in League Two.

“We’ve been struggling in recent months due to the lack of revenue coming into the club, but we wanted to try and look after our fans, because we know some of them will have been struggling too,” the Town manager said.

“We want to reward the loyalty that they’ve shown towards us and also try to grow our fan-base.

“Whether we go up or not, we’ll still be travelling to lots of clubs with big set-ups and a lot of history next season, and to try and compete at such places we need that vocal support backing us out on the field.

“We desperately need our supporters behind us at home and away."

Town's decision to significantly increase admission fees ahead of 2019/20 attracted plenty of criticism from disgruntled supporters last summer, and Weaver has revealed that the matter was on his mind when he approached the club's board to propose a price-freeze.

"Last year, the football club's intention wasn't to upset anyone," he added.

"We've tried to build a reputation for communicating well with our supporters and perhaps that was just one slip in concentration.

"We didn't communicate as well as we could have done about our reasons for the ticket-price increase, so it's great that we've been able to do something about it now.

"I am really pleased that, together with the directors, we decided to freeze the prices for next season whether we are playing our football in the National League or the EFL.

“The players and I wanted supporters to know how much we count on your following, we wanted to say thank you at this difficult time."
