Deals for two players are expected to be concluded early next week, with talks currently ongoing with a number of other targets.

Manager Simon Weaver released eight members of his first-team squad at the end of last season, with a further five loanees returning to their parent clubs, leaving the Sulphurites with 17 senior professionals on their books.

The arrival of midfielder Alex Pattison from Wycombe Wanderers took that number up to 18, though Town have been quiet in the transfer market since he was unveiled at Wetherby Road on May 26.

But, Weaver has been busy behind closed doors and revealed to the Harrogate Advertiser that further reinforcements are imminent.

“Negotiations with a centre-forward and an experienced centre-half are at an advanced stage,” he said.

“We hope to have everything finalised next week with those two.

“As I’ve said previously, I want to bring in a left-back as well. It’s been a bit of a slow burner, but we are in talks with someone.

“There are a lot of players out there, but as is always the case, it is just about making sure that we are recruiting the right people.”

Weaver could also be in the market for a goalkeeper and admitted last month that he had made contact with out-of-contract Southend United custodian Mark Oxley.

The 30-year-old will not be extending his stay at Roots Hall, though it remains to be seen whether he is destined for North Yorkshire.
