Harrogate Town boss unsure on Shane Killock return from Guiseley

Harrogate Town boss Simon Weaver sent club captain Killock out on loan in November and acquired Shiels’ services from Northern Counties side Worksop Town.

Despite the defender’s lack of experience, Shiels has become a level head at the back for Town since arriving.

He was influential in Town’s 0-0 draw at home to Guiseley on Boxing Day, and the defender hardly put a foot wrong again on Sunday in the 1-1 draw at Barrow.

Weaver said: “Some of his tackles in the last two games have been unbelievable. His last two performances have been as good as anyone has played at my time in the club.”

The boss added: “With new additions we will be a big squad if we get everyone fit. I am going to wait to decide on Shane until his suspension is over.

“After his suspension we will open talks between the clubs. We will also have to see how Lee Franks is over the next few weeks”

Weaver also confirmed he would look at letting fringe players leave on loan in January.

Harrogate Railway are believed to be interested in a move for midfielders Alex Metcalfe and Luke Dean, who have both enjoyed successful spells at Station View over the last 12 months.

Weaver added: “When I wasn’t playing I would always knock on the manager’s door.

“I am quite happy for people to come and approach me and say they want to be playing.

“If they are not involved, I am happy for them to go out on loan and get games.”

Town, 14th in Vanarama North, head to Guiseley on New Year’s Day before welcoming Hednesford Town on Sunday (3pm).

Weaver loaned Paul Clayton on Christmas Eve and the Alfreton striker played in both draws over the festive period.

Hull City loanee Ryan Fallowfield also made his debut against Guiseley and retained his place in an unchanged line-up at Barrow.

Both new recruits have made a positive impression on Weaver, who believes his side have turned a corner over the festive period.

The boss said: “We have a bit flimsy at time this season and they have come in and added us some steel through the spine of the team.

“With Ryan, when there is a 50/50, there’s only going to be one winner. Paul is a robust striker and he wants the ball all the time.

“He has got us playing higher up the pitch.

“But it’s their mentality more than ability which has brought more to the squad. They are winners.

“I don’t think I will be changing the team too much for Guiseley. We have had back to back teams, and back to back same performances.

“I will be consistent with people when they can be consistent in their performances.

“We believe we can go on a decent run in 2015. We need big figures like Ashley Worsfold and Leigh Franks to return.

“If the last two performances are a sign of things to come, maybe we can go on that run.”
