The former Glasgow Celtic man got on the end of Jack Muldoon's 27th-minute cross from the right to net the only goal of the game, handing his team a first League Two win in seven attempts.

Miller's inclusion in Weaver's starting line-up on the night will have surprised some given that he didn’t even make the match-day squad for Saturday’s trip to Leyton Orient, nor for Town's previous League Two outing, at home to Crawley.

But, having reacted positively to that disappointment and made a real impression in training earlier this week, Miller persuaded his manager to give him another chance – a decision that he would not live to regret.

“I’m buzzing for Calvin,” Weaver said.

“He was left at home at the weekend and he had that hurt inside, obviously, he made a big commitment in signing for us.

“But sometimes players need that bit of hurt to bounce back and show true character and sometimes we have to test players to see what they’ve got about them and he’s bounced back in style at Mansfield.

“Positions were up for grabs after Saturday and we looked at it in training and I thought he grabbed it in training.

“He put some good balls in with his left foot and it is great to see a wideman come inside and score.

“It was a good bit of play by Jack Muldoon for the goal, but I thought Calvin had a big say in the game tonight.”
