Here's an assessment of how Simon Weaver's men fared against the Grecians.

James Belshaw 6. Wasn't really called upon to make too many saves, but stayed alert to keep out Joel Randall's cross-cum-shot in the first half and came off his line well to claim one dangerous ball into his box late on. Communicated and marshalled his back-four to good effect.

Jay Williams 5. Began pretty well in the right-back slot but looked a little over-eager at times. One unforced error in the first period gifted Exeter probably their best chance of the game and there were a couple more loose bits of play as the second period wore on.

Jake Lawlor 7. ADVERTISER STAR MAN.Perhaps his most complete display in Harrogate colours. There were a number of ice-cold moments where he calmly dealt with danger or helped the ball back to his goalkeeper. Alongside Connor Hall, he played a big part in making sure the hosts kept a clean-sheet against the division's leading scorers.

Connor Hall 7. Guilty of one first-half error as he attempted to cover for Williams' mistake and he had his hands full with the dangerous Ryan Bowman, however he read the game well for the most part and made plenty of important clearances and interceptions.

Warren Burrell 4. Spoiled what had been a good performance at left-back with two yellow cards in the space of seven minutes, the second of which followed a senseless lunge. Had looked composed and defended solidly until that point and almost broke the deadlock in the first half following a neat run and shot.

George Thomson 6. Was very involved early on and tested Jonny Maxted with a well-struck 10th-minute effort, but didn't really impact the game too much after the break.

Josh Falkingham 7. Busy and tenacious, the Town captain was all over the field throughout the 90 minutes, making a couple of key interventions inside his own box and competing fiercely. Felt he should have had a number of free-kicks that referee Thomas Brammall was unwilling to give.

Ed Francis 7. The early evidence is that Harrogate have a serious footballer on their hands. Technically excellent, the weight of pass he played for the majority of the night was spot on. Filled in well at left-back following Burrell's dismissal.

Brendan Kiernan 7. Took the game to Exeter with a couple of really positive bursts, worrying the visitors with his pace and willingness to go at defenders. But despite some bright approach play and a lot of endeavour, he couldn't help fashion a breakthrough.

Jack Muldoon 6. Always looks Harrogate's most likely source of a goal, though the second half saw him twice opt to be unselfish and pass to team-mates in dangerous areas when pulling the trigger himself might have been the better option.

Aaron Martin 6. Toiled away, fought hard, competed in the air and made sure that the visiting centre-halves knew that they had been in a contest. Some good hold-up play mixed with a few untidy moments and loose touches. Saw one strike superbly saved by Maxted but needs to offer more of a goal-threat.
