Harrogate Railway Athletic recorded back-to-back league victories for the first time this season to move up to 18th in the NCEL Premier Division standings.
Saturday’s 2-1 home success over fellow strugglers Parkgate was Paul Beesley’s team’s second in five days, following a midweek triumph at Armthorpe Welfare.
Rail did not have things all their own way, however, their winless visitors enjoying the better of the chances in the opening period after taking the lead in the very first minute of the game.
James Handley struck with less than 60 seconds on the clock, and with Rail looking less than convincing at the back, Parkgate had chances to increase their advantage.
They failed to take them, however, and Mike Morris levelled the scores just two minutes before the break.
The home side were much improved after the interval and produced a powerful second-half performances where they struck the woodwork and forced visiting goalkeeper Josh Lill into a string of fine saves.
Undeterred, they kept pushing for a winner, and it arrived in the 78th minute via the head of player-boss Beesley.
Ryan Sharrocks sent a free-kick into a dangerous area and the Rail chief rose highest to nod home from close range, sealing the points and his side’s first home league win of 2016/17.
