Harrogate Railway striker stays level best with Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo

He is breaking records that may never be beaten, but Cristiano Ronaldo’s goalscoring spree is being matched by Harrogate Railway’s own juggernaut Nathan Cartman.

The goal machines have both notched 32 goals in the 2014/15 campaign so far, with an equal record of 25 goals in the league.

Real Madrid wonder Ronaldo bagged two goals in the Champions League winners’ 4-1 La Liga victory over Almeria on Friday night to pull one clear of Railway’s little dynamo.

However, Cartman shot back with Railway’s opener in the 3-0 win over New Mills, heading in Robbie Youhill’s cross at the back post.

Ronaldo’s failure to score in the World Club Championships win against Cruz Azul on Tuesday night kept the pair locked together. Harrogate Railway manager Billy Miller is running short of superlatives for Cartman’s goal spree, but said he was the end product of a flowing team.

“It was a great, trademark finish for Carts supplied again by Robbie,” Miller said. “At this moment we are playing with bags and bags of confidence. We look like we can score whenever we go forward and Carts is always there in the six yard box to finish it off.

“There’s a great camaraderie amongst the players. We know our strengths and weaknesses and we will continue to hide the weaknesses and play to our strengths.”
